To commemorate World Mangrove Day, FINNS Bali, in collaboration with the Bali Youth Parliament for Water (BYPW), planted 500 mangrove seedlings at Kampung Wisata Kepiting, Tuban, Badung, on Saturday, 26 July 2025. The event gathered 75 participants, including students, community groups, NGOs, and professionals, all united by a shared commitment to protecting Bali’s coastal ecosystems.
Beyond the planting activity, participants engaged in an interactive educational session that highlighted the critical ecological functions of mangroves. These ecosystems act as natural shields against coastal erosion and seawater intrusion, while also serving as powerful carbon sinks, safeguarding groundwater, and providing nurseries for marine biodiversity. The species planted, Sonneratia mucronata, is particularly valued for its robust stilt roots that stabilize shorelines and enhance coastal resilience.
The initiative, themed “Sea You at The Roots,” reflects the joint commitment of FINNS Bali and BYPW to empower the younger generation in tangible climate action and environmental stewardship. More than a one-day event, this mangrove planting represents a sustained effort to protect Bali’s coastline, strengthen community awareness, and preserve ecological balance for future generations.
