In an effort to preserve the environment and support the mangrove ecosystem, FINNS Bali together with the Minutes of Manager community and the Bali Youth Parliament for Water (Bali YPW) planted 300 mangroves in the Jimbaran mangrove estuary area, on Sunday 28 July 2024. This action is in celebration of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, held on 26 July 2024.
The mangrove planting process involves various parties, 91 of whom include FINNS Bali employees, local fishing communities, and various volunteers. Before planting, an educational session was held to raise awareness about the importance of mangroves and the correct way to plant them. Mangrove seeds are carefully selected to ensure they can grow well in the Jimbaran estuary environment. Three types of mangroves were planted, namely Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, and Rhizophora apiculata.
This planting activity is one part of the program ESG (Environment, Social, & Governance) which targets the environmental sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem in Bali because they play an important role in natural defense against erosion, storms, tsunamis, and also support biodiversity and animal origin. Hopefully, with this joint mangrove planting action, Bali’s beaches can be preserved.
