FINNS Beach Club, renowned as the world’s best beach club, has achieved a remarkable milestone by processing 80% of its waste into recyclable materials, compost, and animal feed. This achievement comes just nine months after the launch of its Zero Waste to Landfill program in April 2024. “We initiated this program because we want to be part of the solution to Bali’s waste problem,” said Abdul Manaf, ESG Manager of FINNS Beach Club. “On average, FINNS generates 2 tons of waste daily, so we need actions to ensure our waste is processed responsibly”, he added.
By implementing a proven waste management strategy, the club has successfully reduced its environmental impact. Waste is sorted at the source into categories such as organic and non-organic, with additional bins in the kitchen designated for animal feed. There is a dedicated team that does fine sorting, separating materials into categories like plastics, paper/cardboard, aluminum cans, glass bottles, organic compost, animal feed, and more. These materials are then sent to trusted partners, including Eco Bali Recycle, Urban Compost, Plastic Bank members, and the Community Waste Project. This approach has enabled FINNS to reduce landfill waste from 80% to just 20% as certified by Eco Mantra.
Looking ahead, FINNS aims to reduce landfill waste to just 5% while processing the majority of its waste sustainably. To achieve this goal, the club plans to enhance its on-site sorting facilities, continue sorting at the source, and collaborate with other hospitality businesses, companies, NGOs, and community organisations. Partnering with some of the leaders in waste management like Potato Head, Merah Putih Hijau, and Eco Mantra and others mentioned above will contribute towards a zero-waste future by sharing good practices and fostering collaboration.
FINNS Beach Club’s commitment to sustainability sets a new standard for environmental responsibility in the hospitality industry, demonstrating that impactful change is both achievable and essential if a company is willing to do it.
