FINNS Bali, together with Yayasan Literasi Anak Indonesia (YLAI), the Tibubeneng Village Government, and the local Education Office (Disdikpora Kuta Utara), has officially opened a new child-friendly library, “Widya Ananta,” at SD No. 3 Tibubeneng. The launch marks a new chapter for the school in providing a warmer, more inspiring space for children to learn and read. The name carries a meaningful philosophy: Widya means knowledge, and Ananta means infinite together, “boundless knowledge.” It reflects the hope that the library will become an endless source of learning for the school’s students.
The initiative responds to a broader literacy challenge in Indonesia, where national assessments show many students still fall short of minimum reading standards, and access to quality children’s books remains limited in many areas. Through this partnership, YLAI carried out a year-long library intervention at the school, providing at least 350 age-appropriate books, child-friendly furniture, and hands-on training for teachers and librarians on running reading activities and managing the library sustainably.
“Investing in education and literacy is one of the most valuable investments we can make for the nation’s future,” said I Made Andhika Krisna Yudha, Community Relationship Director of FINNS Bali, at the opening ceremony. He added that the library is meant to be more than a room full of books; it is a window to the world, where children can build imagination and character from an early age. This is part of FINNS ESG initiative to ensure accessible education for everyone.
As an implementing partner, YLAI has developed more than 200 child-friendly school libraries across Bali, in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Karangasem, Tabanan, and Klungkung – benefiting tens of thousands of students, distributing hundreds of thousands of books, and training thousands of educators in literacy and library management. This track record was a key reason FINNS Bali chose to partner with YLAI for the Tibubeneng project.
Students were encouraged to treat the new library as a second home, and to help take care of the space built through the collective effort of the school, government, and community partners.
The launch of Widya Ananta reflects a shared commitment between the private sector, local government, and civil society to advance children’s literacy across Bali, and forms part of FINNS Bali’s ongoing dedication to education and community empowerment.
